The 43-credit Executive Program for the Master of
Business Administration (MBA) is an accelerated 21-month program designed for
managers with at least five years of business or management experience.
Developed with business leaders on an advisory board, and delivered by a faculty
experienced in business and knowledgeable in academic content, the Executive MBA
is designed to equip today's managers for success in the global marketplace.
Special features of the Executive MBA program include:
Global and cross-cultural perspective on all management issues. Online
interaction among program participants. International study trip to meet with
business leaders on other continents. Internet technology to support the
management of teams and projects. Speakers with expertise in business and
government
Leadership and team development provided by the National Leadership Institute (NLI)
Composition of the Executive Class
Each class, or cohort, has approximately 25-30 participants who progress through
the entire program as a group. Throughout the program, the active participation
and interaction of group members is designed to contribute significantly to a
broader understanding of cross-cultural, organizational, and management issues.
Program Format
Each of seven seminars is delivered through a combination of face-to-face
classes and online study, with approximately six days of weekend meetings in
each three-month seminar. This combination helps business leaders develop the
different skills required for managing people and projects at a distance as well
as in person. The face-to-face seminars focus on effective oral communication
and formal presentations; online work emphasizes results-based written
communication. With emphasis on innovation and strategic thinking, the
interdisciplinary curriculum integrates six seminar themes and culminates with a
strategy project in which participants are teamed with sponsoring corporations
to develop market entry or market enhancement strategies that improve the
sponsor's competitive advantage.
Program Location
All in-person classes for each Executive MBA cohort are held at the same
location throughout the program. This location may be the UMUC Inn and
Conference Center in Adelphi, Maryland, the USM Shady Grove Center in Rockville,
Maryland, in Northern Virginia, or in Washington, D.C.
